China Condemns Western Interference After 45 Hong Kong Activists Sentenced
Nov 19, 2024, 09:51 AM
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has responded strongly to the sentencing of 45 separatist activists in Hong Kong, who were convicted of conspiracy to subvert state power in the first case of its kind. The Ministry emphasized that no one should use democracy as a pretext to escape the law and break justice. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Tuesday that no one can engage in illegal activities under the guise of democracy to evade legal punishment. The Ministry also firmly opposed the interference of certain Western countries, including the US and Australia, which it accused of smearing and undermining the rule of law in Hong Kong. The Chinese central government expressed its support for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in safeguarding national security and opposing foreign interference.
