Attempted Coup in Kinshasa Thwarted by Army, Three Dead

An attempted coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital, Kinshasa, was thwarted by the Congolese army. Gunfire was heard near the presidential palace, with armed men in military uniform clashing with guards at the residence of Vital Kamerhe, the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and leader of the Union for the Congolese Nation party. The attack resulted in the death of three people. The Congolese army reported that the perpetrators, including both Congolese and foreign fighters, have been arrested. AP reported that the shootout was part of a failed coup.
