Over 5,000 Starbucks Workers Strike at 300 Stores Nationwide Ahead of Christmas
Dec 24, 2024, 02:44 PM
Starbucks workers have expanded their strike to over 300 stores across 45 states in the United States, including major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, and Seattle. The strike, dubbed 'The Strike Before Christmas' and organized by Starbucks Workers United—which represents over 10,000 baristas and backs 525 stores—began on December 20th and escalated over the following days. More than 5,000 workers are participating in the five-day work stoppage, demanding better pay, improved staffing, more predictable schedules, and recognition as unionized employees. The strike has shut down nearly 60 stores as of Monday afternoon and is expected to continue until Christmas Eve, affecting operations during one of the company's busiest shopping seasons. Starbucks has stated that the strike has had 'no significant impact' on its store operations.
