Over 5,000 Starbucks Workers Strike at 300 Stores Across 45 States on Christmas Eve
Dec 24, 2024, 09:10 PM
Starbucks baristas across the United States have expanded their strike to more than 300 stores on Christmas Eve, with over 5,000 workers walking off the job in what the union has dubbed 'The Strike Before Christmas.' Organized by Starbucks Workers United, employees are demanding the company recognize them as unionized workers and meet demands for a labor contract. The five-day strike, which began on December 20 in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, has resulted in the closure of nearly 60 stores as of Monday afternoon and is the largest work stoppage in Starbucks history. Workers in 45 states are participating, protesting low wages, unpredictable scheduling, and other unfair labor practices. Despite the strikes, Starbucks maintains that 97% to 99% of its locations remain open and that the strikes have not significantly impacted its operations.
