China Coast Guard Attacks Philippine Ships, Installs Barrier in South China Sea
Apr 30, 2024, 03:55 AM
On Tuesday, the China Coast Guard expelled Philippine vessels from the waters adjacent to Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. This action involved the use of water cannons against two Philippine coast guard ships, including the BRP Datu Bangkaw, resulting in damage to one of the vessels. The incident occurred near Huangyan Dao, also known as Scarborough Shoal, and involved a total of ten Chinese ships, including four coast guard and six maritime militia vessels. Additionally, the Chinese forces installed a 380-meter barrier at the entrance to the shoal. The Chinese action has been described as a response to the alleged illegal intrusion of Philippine vessels into the area.
