NY Judge Overturns Nassau County Ban on Transgender Athletes
May 11, 2024, 10:08 AM
A New York state Supreme Court judge, Francis Ricigliano, struck down Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman's executive order that banned transgender women and girls from participating in sports at county-owned facilities. The order, issued in February, was challenged by a local women's roller derby league. The judge ruled that Blakeman did not have the authority to issue such an order as there was no legislative support for it. An appeal by the county executive is expected.
