Afghan National, 27, Nasir Tawhedi Arrested in Oklahoma for Election Day ISIS Terror Plot
Oct 8, 2024, 10:42 PM
The Justice Department announced the arrest of an Afghan national residing in Oklahoma City, accused of plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day in the United States on behalf of ISIS. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, allegedly planned to target large crowds during the upcoming elections. Tawhedi entered the United States in September 2021 on a special immigrant visa following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. According to court documents, on October 7, Tawhedi and a juvenile met with undercover FBI agents at a rural location in the Western District of Oklahoma, where they purchased weapons and ammunition. He was charged via a criminal complaint with conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, indicating urgency in the case. The FBI's Oklahoma City office led the investigation, and FBI Director Christopher Wray issued a statement regarding the arrest.
