Iran to Discuss 60% Uranium Enrichment With E3 in Geneva Before Trump's Return
Jan 13, 2025, 04:35 AM
Iran is scheduled to engage in nuclear talks with France, Britain, and Germany, known as the E3, in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 13-14, 2025. These discussions, described as consultations rather than negotiations, come just a week before Donald Trump's inauguration as the US President. The talks are the third round in a series, following previous meetings in October and December 2024. The E3 aim to address the progress of Iran's nuclear program, which they consider extremely problematic. Iran has been increasing its stockpile of enriched uranium, reaching levels of 60%, which is close to the 90% required for an atomic bomb. Despite this, Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. The E3 countries have expressed their determination to use all diplomatic tools to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, including the possibility of invoking the snapback mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions if necessary.
