Syrian Rebel Leader Al-Julani Declares No Conflict with Israel After Iranian Forces Withdrawal, Calls for International Intervention
Dec 14, 2024, 04:31 PM
Ahmed Al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), stated that Syria will not engage in conflict with Israel. In his first comments addressing Israel since the recent military actions began on November 27, he emphasized that Israel's justifications for intervening in Syria have diminished following the withdrawal of Iranian forces. Al-Julani expressed a desire for diplomatic relations, mentioning ongoing communications with Western embassies, particularly discussions with Britain regarding the restoration of its representation in Syria. He also highlighted that the current situation in Syria is too exhausting for further conflict and that his administration is focused on reconstruction and development. Al-Julani reiterated that there are no hostilities with the Iranian community and stated that he has given Russia an opportunity to reconsider its relationship with the Syrian people. His remarks come amid increased tensions in the region, with a call for international intervention to address what he described as unjustified Israeli escalations in Syria. Additionally, he confirmed that the upcoming Syrian government will include elections, signaling a shift towards a more structured governance model.
