E. Coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald’s Sickens 104, 34 Hospitalized, One Death Reported
Nov 14, 2024, 12:30 AM
Health officials have confirmed that at least 104 people across 14 U.S. states have been sickened in an outbreak of E. coli food poisoning linked to onions served on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers. Of those affected, 34 have been hospitalized, and one death has been reported in Colorado. The outbreak has been traced to slivered onions used in the burgers, and cases have been reported as early as the end of September. Eight cases have been reported in Utah. Despite the outbreak, McDonald’s has resumed selling Quarter Pounders with slivered onions after testing ruled out beef patties as the source of the contamination. The CDC and FDA are continuing to monitor the situation.
