The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has linked an E. coli outbreak in Mountain West states to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers. The outbreak has resulted in 49 reported cases across 10 states, leading to 10 hospitalizations and one death of an elderly individual in Colorado. In response, McDonald's is temporarily removing suspect ingredients and making Quarter Pounders unavailable in some states. Following the news, McDonald's shares have dropped sharply in after-hours trading, falling as much as 10%.
