VisitCanadian MPs Wittingly Involved in Foreign Interference by China and India, NSICOP Report Reveals
Jun 3, 2024, 08:45 PM
A new report by the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) has revealed that multiple Canadian Members of Parliament (MPs) have wittingly been involved in foreign interference activities. The report states that MPs have been communicating with foreign agents to coordinate political campaigns, accepting campaign funds from these agents, and disclosing information about other MPs. The interference is described as 'sophisticated and pervasive,' with China and India being the primary perpetrators. The Liberal government has been criticized for its slow response to these threats. Additionally, India has now supplanted Russia as the second-largest source of foreign interference in Canada, following China. The findings were made by a cross-party committee of parliamentarians.
