Nearest Supermassive Black Hole Destroys Star, Targets Another
Oct 11, 2024, 05:02 AM
A massive black hole has torn apart one star and is now using the resulting debris to attack another star or a smaller black hole. This discovery was made using NASA’s space observatories, ChandraXray, and ISRO’s AstroSat. The orbiting star is now repeatedly crashing through the debris disk approximately every 48 hours. The event was reported in the journal Nature and is considered the nearest star-eating supermassive black hole.
