Jan 4, 2025, 08:39 PM
A fire at the Plaza Latina Bazaar in Northwest Dallas on Friday morning resulted in the deaths of 579 animals due to smoke inhalation, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. The two-alarm fire, which took about two hours and 45 firefighters to extinguish, did not reach the pet shop directly but filled it with smoke, leading to the fatalities of the animals, primarily small birds, along with chickens, hamsters, two dogs, and two cats. No human injuries were reported, and no exotic animals were found at the site. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The shopping center, located on Harry Hines Boulevard, sustained significant structural damage, including a partially collapsed roof.
