OpenAI Launches SearchGPT in ChatGPT, Challenging Google with Bing-Powered Web Search
Oct 31, 2024, 04:31 PM
OpenAI has introduced a new search feature to its ChatGPT platform, called SearchGPT, enabling users to access up-to-date information sourced from the web. Built with the SearchGPT prototype and powered by Microsoft's Bing, the feature allows ChatGPT to search the internet in real-time, providing fast answers with linked sources for data such as news, stocks, weather, and sports scores. OpenAI has partnered with media organizations to enhance the service. This addition positions ChatGPT as a direct challenger to Google's search capabilities. The search feature is being rolled out globally to Plus and Teams users today, with Enterprise and Education users gaining access in one week. Free users are expected to receive access over the coming months, though some reports indicate it's already rolling out to free users. The feature is available on the ChatGPT web interface as well as on desktop and mobile apps.
