McDonald's Pulls Quarter Pounders from 20% of U.S. Stores as E. coli Outbreak Sickens 75 in 13 States
Oct 25, 2024, 04:25 PM
McDonald's has pulled its Quarter Pounder hamburgers from 20% of its U.S. stores amid a deadly E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 75 people across 13 states and killed one person. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 22 people have been hospitalized, with two in critical condition. The outbreak, linked to raw onions used on the burgers, has affected states including Colorado and Nebraska, which have reported the most illnesses. The E. coli strain involved is one of the leading causes of foodborne illness in the United States. McDonald's USA head Joe Erlinger vowed to restore public trust as the company works closely with federal health officials to determine the source of contamination and contain the outbreak.
