Prosecutors Indict Impeached South Korean President Yoon for Insurrection Over December 3 Martial Law
Jan 26, 2025, 10:28 AM
South Korean prosecutors have indicted impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of leading an insurrection following his brief imposition of martial law on December 3, Yonhap News Agency reported. Yoon, who was impeached and suspended from power on December 14, has been incarcerated since last week while investigators probe his attempt to impose martial law. The indictment comes after anti-corruption investigators recommended charges last week, escalating the political crisis in the country. This marks the first time a sitting South Korean president has been indicted while under detention.
