South Korean Court Rejects Second Request to Extend Yoon's Detention Until Feb. 6
Jan 25, 2025, 01:15 AM
On Jan. 25, a South Korean court rejected the prosecution's second request to extend the detention of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol. The Seoul Central District Court denied the extension on Saturday, following an initial rejection on Friday. The prosecution had sought to extend Yoon's detention until Feb. 6 to continue their investigation into allegations that Yoon was the mastermind behind a short-lived martial law declaration on Dec. 3, which led to political turmoil. Yoon has been detained since his arrest on Dec. 19 and is currently held at the Seoul Detention Center. The court's decision puts pressure on the prosecution to decide whether to indict Yoon before his current detention period ends on Jan. 27.
