Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, the insurance division of UnitedHealth Group, was fatally shot in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning in what authorities are investigating as a targeted attack. The incident occurred outside the Hilton hotel on 6th Avenue shortly after 6:46 a.m., where Thompson was scheduled to speak at an investor meeting later that day. According to police sources, a masked gunman shot Thompson, 50, in the chest before fleeing eastbound on 6th Avenue. Thompson was transported to Mount Sinai West Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, and law enforcement officials are searching for the suspect. UnitedHealth canceled its investor day event citing a "very serious medical situation with one of our team members."
