Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare—a division of UnitedHealth Group—was reportedly fatally shot in Manhattan outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown, according to multiple sources including PIX11 and the New York Post. The incident took place around 6:46 a.m. when a masked gunman shot Thompson in the chest and fled eastbound on 6th Avenue on foot. Police are treating the attack as a targeted hit. UnitedHealth Group shares fell 2.7% in premarket trading following the news. Thompson was scheduled to speak at an investor meeting at the hotel later that day.
