TikTok Challenges Canadian Shutdown Order Amid National Security Concerns
Dec 11, 2024, 12:29 PM
TikTok's Canadian arm has filed a legal challenge against a government order to shut down its operations in the country. The challenge comes as the Canadian government, through its Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, has deemed TikTok a national security risk. TikTok argues against the shutdown, stating it contributed nearly USD33 billion to the US GDP last year and has 170 million US users. The company has also filed an emergency injunction to prevent a similar ban from taking effect in the US on January 19.
