Trump Offers Federal Workers Pay Through Sept. 30 if They Resign by Feb. 6

The Trump administration is offering buyouts to all federal workers who are unwilling to return to in-office work, according to a memo to be released Tuesday. Under the 'deferred resignation program', employees who have completed at least 12 months of continuous service and resign by February 6 will receive pay and benefits through September 30. The initiative aims to address low in-office attendance, as only 6% of federal employees currently work full-time in the office. An administration official stated, 'We're five years past COVID and just 6% of federal employees work full-time in office. That is unacceptable.' The administration expects 5–10% of the 2 million-strong federal workforce to accept the offer, potentially resulting in $100 billion in savings.
