Nahid Taghavi Released from Evin Prison and Returns to Germany After Four Years
Jan 13, 2025, 09:11 AM
Nahid Taghavi, a 69-year-old German-Iranian dual citizen and political prisoner, has been released from Evin prison in Tehran after more than four years of incarceration. She has returned to Germany, as announced by her daughter, Mariam Claren. Taghavi was arrested in October 2020 and sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison by the Iranian Revolutionary Court in August 2021 for charges of membership in an illegal group and propaganda against the regime. Her release marks the end of a long campaign for her freedom, with Amnesty International and her daughter playing significant roles in advocating for her release. Taghavi's health had deteriorated significantly during her imprisonment, and she endured periods of solitary confinement and torture.
