Greenland PM to Meet Danish King Amid Trump's Threats of Military or Economic Action for Island Control

Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede is set to meet with Denmark's King Frederik in Copenhagen on Wednesday, following remarks by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump expressing his desire to take control of the Arctic island. Trump, who will assume office on January 20, has not ruled out using military or economic measures against Denmark to incorporate Greenland, a semi-sovereign territory with a population of 57,000 that has been part of Denmark for 600 years, into the United States. The meeting comes after Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., made a private visit to Greenland. Egede, who supports Greenland's future independence from Denmark, had previously announced that the meeting with the king was postponed, but the Danish royal court confirmed it would proceed. Both Egede and Denmark have stated that Greenland is not for sale, and its future can only be decided by Greenlanders themselves.
