President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed his interest in acquiring Greenland, leading to heightened tensions with Denmark. In a 45-minute phone call on Wednesday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that Greenland is not for sale and that any decision on its independence rests with Greenland itself. She described the situation as "serious." Trump has not ruled out using military or economic measures, such as tariffs on Danish goods, to obtain control over the island. Frederiksen has called a meeting with Danish business leaders, including Novo Nordisk's CEO, to discuss potential trade conflicts with the United States. Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede stated that while Greenland values cooperation with the U.S., it seeks independence and does not want to become part of the United States.
