Edmundo González Urrutia Denounces Maduro's Coup, Orders Military to Prepare for His Presidency
Jan 10, 2025, 10:27 PM
Edmundo González Urrutia, the opposition leader in Venezuela, has denounced what he describes as a coup by Nicolás Maduro, who was sworn in as president by the National Assembly controlled by the Chavista regime. González Urrutia, claiming to represent the will of nearly 8 million Venezuelans, ordered the military high command to disregard any illegal orders from those who have seized power. He also instructed them to prepare security conditions for his return to Venezuela to assume the presidency, asserting that Maduro's actions have violated the Constitution and the popular will expressed in the elections on July 28. González Urrutia accused Maduro of self-proclaiming as a dictator, supported only by the regimes of Cuba, Congo, and Nicaragua. He stated he is working on conditions for his safe entry into Venezuela to take office as mandated by the Constitution and the people's vote.
