TikTok to Shut Down US App on January 19 Unless Supreme Court Blocks Federal Ban
Jan 15, 2025, 11:30 AM
TikTok plans to shut down its app for US users on Sunday, January 19th, when a federal ban on the social media app is set to take effect, unless the Supreme Court intervenes to block it. Users who already have the app installed will not be able to use it and will be redirected to a website providing details about the ban and given the option to download their data. An abrupt switch-off is planned to bring home the impact of the ban to all users. A decision from the Supreme Court is expected this week.
