Ruling Party Chief Urges President Yoon's Suspension After Martial Law Attempt, Alleged Arrest Orders
Dec 6, 2024, 02:15 AM
South Korea's ruling party leader, Han Dong-hoon, has called for the swift suspension of President Yoon Suk Yeol from office following an attempted imposition of martial law that lasted just six hours. Han warned that if President Yoon remains in power, citizens could be in "great danger" and there is a "significant risk" of extreme actions similar to the martial law declaration being repeated. He further alleged that credible evidence suggests Yoon tried to order the arrest of opposition politicians during the brief period of martial law. While Han stopped short of urging members to vote for impeachment, the People Power Party's shift in stance increases the likelihood of an impeachment motion against President Yoon over his actions.
