Iran Condemns Aleppo Consulate Attack by Syrian Opposition Forces, Vows Response
Nov 30, 2024, 03:43 PM
Syrian opposition forces have reportedly stormed the Iranian consulate in Aleppo, Syria, during an offensive in the area. Videos circulating online show the consulate being taken over, but Iranian state media confirmed that all consulate staff are safe. The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, labeling it a terrorist act carried out by armed terrorist elements, and vowed to respond. Tehran also stated that it would pursue the matter through legal and international channels. Ismail Baqaei, a representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, confirmed the incident. The consulate, which was inaugurated in 2021 by then-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, has been a symbol of Iran's presence in Aleppo.
