Lula Signs BR-381 Highway Concession to 4UM Investimentos, Investing R$ 10 Billion Over 30 Years
Jan 22, 2025, 02:32 PM
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed a contract for the concession of the BR-381 highway in Minas Gerais, known as the 'rodovia da morte' due to its high accident rate. The concession, awarded to 4UM Investimentos, will see an investment of R$ 10 billion over 30 years. The highway, stretching 303.4 km from Belo Horizonte to Governador Valadares, is expected to benefit 4 million people and create 83,500 direct and indirect jobs. The project includes the duplication of 106 km of the road, the addition of 83 km of extra lanes, 51 changes in the road's layout, escape areas, rest stops for truck drivers, and 23 pedestrian overpasses. Initial efforts will focus on road rehabilitation, with an emphasis on safety and visible improvements for users. The first year of the concession will offer toll-free travel, followed by discounts for frequent users.
