The UK Ministry of Defence has announced that the Royal Navy has been tracking the Russian spy ship Yantar after it entered British waters twice in recent weeks, loitering over critical undersea cables in the English Channel. Defence Secretary John Healey warned Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, "We see you, we know what you're doing, and we will not shy away from robust action to protect this country." The Yantar was monitored by the Royal Navy frigate HMS Somerset and the support vessel RFA Proteus, with reports indicating that a Royal Navy submarine surfaced close to the Yantar to signal that it was being observed.
