Dec 20, 2024, 11:30 AM
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that Turkey will assist in restructuring Syria's state and drafting a new constitution following the collapse of the Assad regime. Speaking to journalists on his return flight from Cairo, Erdogan emphasized Turkey's commitment to supporting Syria's transition process. He stated that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will soon visit Syria to collaborate on building the new state structure. Erdogan highlighted the importance of drafting an inclusive constitution and building a political system to shape Syria's future. He also mentioned that Turkey is already in communication with key figures in Syria's new administration, including Ahmed al-Sharaa, to facilitate this process. Additionally, Erdogan called for the lifting of international sanctions imposed during the Assad regime to aid Syria's recovery and stressed the need for addressing energy shortages and security challenges in the country. If Syria establishes a stable structure, it could hold a strong position in the Islamic world, according to Erdogan.
