Turkish Journalist Nevşin Mengü Detained Over YouTube Interview with PYD Leader Salih Müslim, Released Under Judicial Control
Dec 14, 2024, 03:02 PM
Turkish journalist Nevşin Mengü has been detained following an interview with Salih Müslim, the leader of the PYD terrorist organization. Mengü was taken into custody as part of an investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which alleges that the interview contained statements glorifying the terrorist organization. After being interrogated, she was released under judicial control, which includes a travel ban. The interview, which was initially broadcast on her YouTube channel, was removed shortly after airing, as Mengü stated that her lawyers warned her it could lead to legal issues. Salih Müslim is currently sought by authorities under a red notice, and the situation has raised concerns regarding press freedom in Turkey.
