Bolsonaro Requests Passport for Trump's January 20 Inauguration and Official Ball
Jan 11, 2025, 02:30 PM
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has requested the return of his passport from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to attend the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2025. Bolsonaro's passport was confiscated in February 2024 as part of an investigation into an alleged coup attempt. His legal team has formally asked STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes for authorization to travel to the United States. Bolsonaro claims to have received an invitation to Trump's inauguration, which also includes an official ball on January 18. However, Minister Moraes has required Bolsonaro's defense to present an official document proving the invitation before any decision on the passport request is made.
