Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has alleged that the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was orchestrated by the United States and Israel. Speaking in Tehran, Khamenei stated that there is evidence indicating the events in Syria were planned in the command rooms of these two nations. He emphasized that the US and the Zionist regime were the main plotters behind the developments. He also suggested that a neighboring country of Syria played a clear and ongoing role in the situation, though he did not name it. Khamenei revealed that Iranian intelligence services had warned Assad of the threats to his regime. He predicted that the group currently in power in Syria will not remain for long and that the youth of Syria will rise up against them. He expressed confidence that the occupied regions of Syria will be liberated by the courageous Syrian youth and that the United States would be expelled from the region by the resistance front.
