Jan 21, 2025, 06:18 AM
Afghanistan's Taliban government announced the release of two American citizens, Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, in exchange for an Afghan prisoner, Khan Mohammad. Khan Mohammad was arrested in 2006 near Jalalabad and sentenced to life imprisonment in California on narcotics and terrorism charges. The prisoner exchange was facilitated by Qatar after lengthy negotiations. The deal was finalized by the Biden administration but carried out under President Donald Trump. The families of the Americans have confirmed their release.
