Israel Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen, Killing Nine, After Intercepting Missile Over Central Israel
Dec 19, 2024, 04:36 AM
Israel conducted airstrikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen, including in the capital Sana'a and the port city of Hodeidah, after intercepting a missile launched from Yemen targeting central Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that the strikes were approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz and involved dozens of fighter jets. Targets included ports and energy infrastructure, such as the Hezyaz Central Power Plant in Sana'a, which resulted in massive fires and blackouts. The strikes aimed to paralyze Houthi ports by damaging tugboats, disrupting their ability to receive shipments. Houthi media reported that nine people, including workers at the Ras Al-Issa oil refinery, were killed in the strikes. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel over the past year. IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that Israel will not hesitate to act to defend itself and its citizens from Houthi attacks.
