Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, has claimed that he was 'poisoned' by food containing lead and mercury while detained in a Melbourne hotel during his 2022 Australian Open visa saga. The detention was due to his unvaccinated status against Covid-19. Djokovic stated that he experienced health issues after consuming the food provided at the detention hotel. Upon returning to Serbia, toxicology tests reportedly revealed high levels of heavy metals in his system. His visa was ultimately cancelled, leading to his deportation from Australia, which prevented him from participating in the tournament. Despite the ordeal, he expressed no grudges against the Australian people, noting that many have apologized for the government's actions at the time. Djokovic is set to compete in the upcoming Australian Open, aiming for his 11th title and a record-setting 25th major.
