Jan 18, 2025, 01:33 PM
A chairlift accident at Astún ski resort in the Spanish Pyrenees has injured at least 30 people, with 17 reported to be in critical condition. The incident occurred when a chairlift cable snapped, causing several chairs to fall from a height of 15 meters and leaving approximately 80 people stranded on the lift. Emergency services, including four helicopters, are on the scene, and a field hospital has been set up to treat the injured. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has spoken with the President of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, offering government support. The cause of the accident is under investigation, with initial reports pointing to a possible mechanical failure in one of the lift's pulleys.
