A 62-year-old divorced man has been detained after intentionally driving his SUV into crowds of people, including elderly and children, outside a sports center in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, southern China, on Monday evening. The incident resulted in 35 deaths and 43 injuries, according to local police reports. Many of the victims were exercising outside the sports center. Witnesses described the vehicle driving at high speed toward the groups of people. The driver attempted to flee the scene but was detained by authorities. Reports indicate that he tried to commit self-harm with a knife after the incident and was reportedly angered by a divorce.
