IDF Recovers Body of Soldier Oron Shaul Captured by Hamas During 2014's Operation Protective Edge
Jan 19, 2025, 06:10 AM
Israeli troops have recovered the body of Staff Sgt. Oron Shaul, a Golani Brigade soldier who was killed on July 20, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge in the Shejaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, the military announced. Shaul was captured by Hamas, and his body had been held for over ten years. The clandestine operation in the Gaza Strip was carried out jointly by IDF special forces and the Shin Bet security agency before a ceasefire came into effect. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the forces involved and expressed support for Shaul's family, stating, "We will not rest until we bring all our captives home."
