India, Iran Ink 10-Year Deal for Shahid Beheshti Port Terminal at Chabahar
May 13, 2024, 11:44 AM
India and Iran have officially signed a 10-year agreement for the operation and management of the Shahid Beheshti Port Terminal in Chabahar. This strategic deal, signed on May 13, 2024, by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and his Iranian counterpart, aims to enhance regional connectivity and boost trade with Central Asia. The agreement marks a significant shift from the annual renewals previously in place, setting a long-term partnership framework. The Chabahar port is seen as a pivotal route for trade flows between India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan's Karachi.
