Tommy Robinson Jailed for 18 Months After Admitting Ten Counts of Contempt Over Defaming Jamal Hijazi
Oct 28, 2024, 12:42 PM
Tommy Robinson, also known as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, a far-right and anti-Islam activist in the UK, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting to ten counts of contempt of court. Robinson breached a 2021 High Court injunction that forbade him from repeating libelous claims against Syrian refugee Jamal Hijazi, whom he had previously defamed. Despite the injunction, Robinson knowingly and repeatedly made false allegations against Hijazi, including publishing a documentary film and participating in an interview with Jordan Peterson where he discussed the prohibited content. He was arrested on Friday and remanded in custody ahead of a demonstration by his supporters over the weekend. Appearing at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, Robinson pleaded guilty to the contempt charges. The judge emphasized that 'nobody is above the law' and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, of which he is expected to serve at least nine months, minus time already served.
