Nestlé Waters Urged to Halt Perrier Production Over Health Risks
Dec 16, 2024, 11:40 AM
Nestlé Waters, the owner of the Perrier brand, is facing significant scrutiny due to health concerns related to its mineral water production at the Vergèze site in Gard, France. A confidential report from the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Occitanie, obtained by Le Monde and Radio France, suggests that Nestlé should consider halting the production of natural mineral water at this location. The report highlights a potential 'virological risk' for consumers due to the presence of microorganisms in the water, which are not acceptable under regulations for natural mineral water. This follows earlier controversies involving the use of prohibited treatments on its mineral water brands, including Perrier. The ARS has recommended that Nestlé explore alternative uses for the water source, given the ongoing issues with water quality and the health risks associated with the current production methods.
