Hong Kong Police Arrest Six Under #Article23 Security Law, Including Chow Hang Tung
May 28, 2024, 10:14 AM
Hong Kong's national security police have made their first arrests under the new national security law, detaining six individuals for allegedly publishing seditious social media posts. Among those arrested is Chow Hang Tung, a jailed Tiananmen activist. The arrests come just days ahead of the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown on June 4. The police cited the posts as having 'seditious intent' and taking advantage of an upcoming sensitive date. This marks the first enforcement of the new security law under #Article23, which took effect on March 23.
