Trump and Melania Pay Respects to Jimmy Carter Lying in State, Set to Meet Senate Republicans

President-elect Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, arrived at the U.S. Capitol to pay their respects to former President Jimmy Carter, who is lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda. They spent over a minute in silence at Carter's casket. After paying their respects, Trump is scheduled to meet with the Senate Republican conference, led by Senate Majority Leader John Thune, to discuss legislative priorities. Trump was greeted by House Speaker Johnson upon arrival. Trump's visit to the Capitol comes ahead of Carter's funeral, which Trump has confirmed he will attend. The meeting with Senate Republicans marks Trump's first engagement with them since his arrival in Washington, D.C. in the summer.
