Senate Inquiry Finds BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Volkswagen Imported 8,000 Cars, Including Mini Coopers, with Forced Labor Parts
May 20, 2024, 05:26 PM
A U.S. Senate inquiry has found that BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volkswagen imported cars and parts from a Chinese company flagged for using forced labor in Xinjiang. The investigation revealed that BMW imported 8,000 vehicles, including Mini Coopers, into the U.S. with parts from this banned supplier. The Chinese company had been sanctioned under a 2021 law for its use of Uyghur forced labor. Lawmakers are now calling for stricter enforcement to prevent such violations in the future.
