Senate Report: BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Volkswagen Imported 8,000 Vehicles with Parts from Banned Forced Labor Supplier
May 20, 2024, 03:50 PM
A U.S. Senate investigation has revealed that BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volkswagen imported cars and parts from a Chinese supplier flagged for forced labor practices. The report indicates that BMW imported 8,000 vehicles into the U.S. containing parts from this supplier, which has been banned under a 2021 law for using forced labor, particularly involving Uyghur workers in Xinjiang. The Senate Finance Committee's majority staff investigation found that automakers are failing to adequately police their supply chains to prevent the inclusion of components produced under such conditions. Lawmakers are now calling for stricter enforcement measures to address these violations.
