Iran Records Lowest Voter Turnout in Presidential Election History
Jun 29, 2024, 08:28 AM
Iran's presidential election on Friday has recorded the lowest voter turnout in the history of the Islamic Republic. According to state TV and the interior ministry, the turnout reached approximately 40 percent. Authorities extended the voting period to midnight to encourage more participation, but by 10 pm, only 22.8 million people had voted, equating to around 37 percent of eligible voters. This marks a significant drop, despite Ayatollah Khamenei's calls for maximum participation.
