Senior Canadian officials have confirmed that the governing Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP) held secret meetings to rewrite the Elections Act. One of the revisions includes a clause guaranteeing parliamentary pensions for 28 MPs from both parties who were previously ineligible. Allen Sutherland, an assistant cabinet secretary, mentioned that few records were kept of these meetings. The Privy Council of Canada also verified the occurrence of these discussions, which were attended by multiple cabinet aides.
